Do I need X Rays for my Back pain? Chiropractic Topics

X rays are used primarily for imagining of the bones. For back pain that appears related to the joints or the disc, x rays generally aren’t needed for the first 3-4 weeks of Chiropractic care. For people who have had an injury that may be serious enough to cause suspicion of fracture x rays are a good idea. For people who have no response to Chiropractic care for lower back pain in the first 3-4 weeks of care an MRI is often the next step.
Some of the conditions that are cause for extra concern in lower back pain are numbness in the seat area (saddle numbness), fever, weight loss, and muscle weakness in the legs.
Most persons suffering from lower back pain can recover within a month with a combination of Chiropractic care, ice, exercises and over the counter analgesics.
