Scoliosis and Chiropractic

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature to the spine. Many patients who consult a Chiropractor are concerned that their spine is not straight. Scoliosis may be the result of structural and be the result of difference is formation of the vertebrae. Most scoliosis is the result of non structural conditions in the spine the cause may be tilting of the pelvis. The pelvis may become tilted due to a structurally short leg or shortening as a compensation to motion problems in the pelvis. Often a problem with the discs may cause a scoliosis as well. One such case would be an antalgic lean resulting from a disc condition. An antalgic posture is a position caused by the body’s efforts to reduce painful pressure on nerves, discs or joints. Usually acute back pain is associated with this type of curve of the spine or scoliosis.
Many scoliosis are known as idiopathic which means the cause is unknown. Many people have mild curvatures to the spine or mild scoliosis. Often the curve in the middle of the back is to the right side which is away from the heart and towards the dominant hand.
