Knee Pain and Chiropractic

Many Chiropractic patients complain of chronically unstable knees that are related to old injuries. Often chronic knee injuries can cause a sensation of instabilility of the knee and the knee may give out at times. These types of problems are usually more pronounced during vigorous exercise such as playing tennis or running on unstable ground. Often a swelling of the unstable knee is present as well.
Injuries to the ligaments of the knee are among the most serious of all knee problems. The ligaments are essential in stabilizing the knee and injuries to the ligaments can contribute to long term instability.
The exact history of injury may be obvious or difficult to pinpoint. Often incomplete tears or sprains are more painful than complete ruptures.
Often the areas of the knee that are tender or swollen following and injury can be big clues to the Chiropractor as to what structures of the knee are involved and what the severity of the injury is.
